Rift, initially named Rift Planes of Telara is a MMORPG by Trion Worlds which features two main factions. These two factions are the Guardians and the Defiant. The Guardians very much believe and put their faith in the gods that they worship. The fact is composed of three races, the Mathosian, the High Elves and the Dwarves.
According to this fact in Rift, Vigil, one of the gods of Telara has not abandoned them but are preparing plans to battle away evil that is spreading through the land. The three races of this fact actually feel that they have a part to play in the gods plan to save the world of Telara from the hands of evil. In the traditional good versus bad concept, the Guardians are the forces of good.
Although the three races base all their actions on goodwill to save the world, tracing back to their history would show that their efforts are also in part, redemption. Their leaders have sinned. For instance, Aedraxis Mathos caused the appearance of the Shade and the Prince Hylas broke his faith in the gods. The Guardians are that, from another point of view, a group seeking redemption for their fallen people.
The Guardians are the protectors of Telara. The fact is associated to law, order and judgment. The fact believes that everything they do is for the good of their people. They also believe that they serve the good by showing their efforts to protect the world from the rifts. According to the Guardians, the planets are clashing and this will bring about the end of the world. Their holy mission is to prevent this from happening by sealing away all the rifles that appear.
