On February 18th, the Design Center in High Point, NC put on an event called Unity in Design. This event was open to all the different design organizations as a way to promote unity, offer continuing education units, and entice designers to come shop the year round vendors to maintain showrooms in High Point. Each organization, had a part in this event. On Thursday, the Association of Interior Design Professionals (AIDP) put on the first breakfast / workshop. After that designers were free to visit showrooms that are not normally open on Thursday's through Saturday's.

One of the showrooms participating in this event and that was offering a luncheon seminar was French Heritage. Hennesy Wayser, the owner of company, spoke at the lunchtime event. Ms. Wayser is an astute business leader in the furniture industry. She has brought her sense of fashion, from a previous career in that industry, and her creativity, to the sometimes stodgy world of furniture. She is also a student of business and marketing and offered designers a new approach consider in these economic times.

The showroom offers furniture from case goods to upholstery, as well as, accessories and lighting. French Heritage craftsmen create each piece of furniture using the same techniques employed by French master craftsman for over 200 years. They use only the finest solid woods, primarily cherry, mahogany, oak and walnut, chosen from healthy mature trees. Panels are matched for color and grain with special care to avoid natural defects.

French Heritage furnishings have pinned mortise and tenon joints for strength and elegant detailing. Their armoires cross rails dovetail into end panels to fortify their doors side to side. Tongue and groove paneling makes tabletops and doors feel seamless. And most carving is done by hand, to give each piece an individual beauty.

Each and every piece is enhanced by the finish. They hand-rub and polish their furniture using natural shellac, French polish and beeswax to create a lasting color and a rich, warm patina that will be enhanced over time.
