These are the aspects to look for when comparing charts
for a couple’s astrological compatibility.
Let’s look first at the harmonious aspects you would like to have between these planets.
These aspects are the Trine, Sextile, and sometimes the Conjunct.
* Sun and Moon (represents man/woman)
* Sun and Sun (natural affinity)
* Sun and Chiron (trustworthy)
* Moon and Moon (Emotionally attuned)
* Moon and Ascendant or Descendant (a soul kinship)
* Moon and Mars (Adds some heat – conjunction can be too combative)
* Venusand Mars (sexual, affectionate
vibe)
* Venus and Moon (warm caring feelings)
* Venus and Mercury (conversations are
more agreeable)
* Venus and Jupiter (Fun, Fun, Fun, Plus
good money aspect )
* Venus and Sun (Love and appreciation of that person)
* Venus and Ascendant/Descendant (Attracted to the physicality of the person)
* Venus and Chiron (Very positive for
relationships)
* Venus and Saturn (long term
relationship)
* Venus and Uranus (exciting,
spontaneous
* Venus and Neptune (dreamy
romanticism)
* Venus and Pluto (intense love
feelings)
* Mars and Ascendant/Descendant
* Mars and Jupiter (Adds a lot of energy in
whatever you choose to pursue)
* Mars and Chiron (Fertile aspect !)
* Jupiter and Chiron (fortunate and blessed
union)
* Jupiter and Sun (Rose colored glasses –
benefactor)
* Jupiter and Mercury (common spiritual
beliefs)
* Jupiter and Ascendant (beneficial )
* Saturn and Moon (stability,
commitment)
* Saturn and Ascendant (adds stability and security)
* Uranus, Neptune, Pluto and any point in the chart is fine.
The most important harmonious aspects to look for in a long term relationship and synastry compatibility are the Sun and Moon aspects, Venus to Mars/Sun/Ascendant, and Chiron to Venus/Sun/Moon/ Jupiter, and Neptune. So look for these first.
Now the reason some of the conjunct aspects are good “sometimes” is because it depends on the individual. With Saturn, it delays, teaches and restricts – but it can also be a source of dependability and stability. If you are someone who needs a lot of freedom in your relationship and doesn’t like to be depended on too much, this aspect can feel too restrictive. On the other hand if you are looking for a companion who can be bring much needed stability to your emotions (moon), self expression (sun), or
to a relationship (Ascendant/descendant) you might prefer this aspect.
Neptune on the other hand can be quite dreamy – to a fault. Disillusionment and victimhood could be brought out in a relationship with this aspect (not to mention substance abuse). With Uranus, a conjunction could indicate many separations (say your partner was a pilot or traveled a lot on business this wouldn’t be so bad) however, if you were someone who preferred a 9 to 5 partner, this could cause many problems. And then there’s Pluto well, intensity is good for some things and not always good for others…..
Next we’ll look at the aspects in synastry compatibility to LOOK OUT FOR ! YIKES
Look for squares, oppositions, and sometimes the conjunct between you and your partner’s planets, especially between the outer planets (saturn, neptune, uranus, and pluto) to your personal planets (sun, moon, mercury, venus, mars). The missing planet, Jupiter, is a mixed bag. At a square or opposite aspect it more or less adds arrogance, exaggeration, laziness, and overdoing. Nothing too bad, but could add an annoying element to the mix.
The most challenging (to say the least) aspects to look for are from Saturn to Venus, Moon, and Chiron. It is called the “heartbreak aspect” in some astrology books. So look out for these ! The next most difficult are from Uranus because of the reversal or separation effect. Pluto to your personal planets can be bring you manipulation/possessiveness/jealousy/over-controlling. And Neptune again, can lead you down the road to dissolution and disillusions.
So as you can see squares and oppositions mostly denote a problem area in a relationship. However, it can also have a stimulating affect as well. You must look to your synastry combinations to see how your squares and oppositions are working in your relationships.
Next look at the midpoint between the Sun and Moon. Take your sun/moon midpoint and check to see if the other person’s Sun or Moon makes a Hard aspect to it, such as; conjunct, square, opposition, sesquiquadrate, semi-square within 8 degrees. Then check his/hers to yours. Combine the two midpoints, to get your combined midpoint, and check both sets of moons/suns to this point. This adds energy to the union to make it “official” so to speak – Not that it always ends in marriage, but there is rarely a couple out there that doesn’t have some connection here. You can even check the
progressed charts. Progressed sun by forward or converse progression can make this aspect too, especially when the couple meets or when they become more committed.
Now, in assessing your synastry, if you were looking for “Mr. Right, or Ms. Right” and it’s important to have sparks in your relationship look for harmonious aspects involving venus with mars, pluto, and uranus and Mars to jupiter, and ascendant. If you are looking for a good companion and the sparks are not so important look for venus and moon, venus, saturn, sun, and ascendant. If you want a relationship that isn’t too predictable look for harmonious aspects with uranus. If, however, you love stability, longevity and security look to harmonious aspects with saturn.
Now remember, even the most romantic couples, even the couples’ whose marriages have become golden, and even cinderella and prince charming, had some challenging aspects in their synastry compatibility. However, it makes for a more enjoyable relationship the more harmonious aspects you have. And you have to decide what’s important to you in a relationship, what you can overcome, and what you can put up with !
