Who are the most likely trade candidates for the trade deadline? Nobody really knows, experts are wrong more than 50% of the time on who they say will get traded, so let's just look at what would be fun if some of these guys moved teams. Contenders that do not quite have it together (Lakers), teams with assets looking for a big name (Rockets), and teams that have extra pieces that might be desired (Kings and Pacers) are all worth looking at.

  • Carmelo Anthony (Nuggets) – This does not really need a long explanation. Most likely destination is the Knicks after the Russian Billionaire folded the cord on the Nets-Nuggets deal for taking to long. The big question I have not seen yet is, 'Can Anthony and Amare be successful on the same team'? Amare needs a complementary defensive center like Tyson Chandler to help make his team better, I just do not know if Melo solves all the problems.
  • Rip Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince (Detroit) – One or both of these guys should get traded. I'd like to see Rip City go to Chicago and complete their roster. Tayshaun needs to revisit his career by going to good team that does not need to run plays for him. Tayshaun would be interesting on Dallas now that Butler is out for the year.
  • James Posey (Pacers) – Did you forget he was on the Pacers? Me too because he's riding the bench as an undersized Power Forward on a team that will stop running with their new coach. Why not bring him back to Boston and let him play Marquis Daniels minutes? Indiana would probably trade him for another Mid-West White College All-Star PF, that's right, Luke Harangody!
  • Ron Artest (Lakers) – The Lakers told the media that they need a trade to shake things up with the team, and the only person who would get traded would be Artest. I do not think they'll be able to move his contract, but he's the most likely to get traded if the 2-time defending champs do anything.
  • Carl Landry (Kings) – I do not even know who the team would want in return for Landry, but he's a free agent at the end of the year, and maybe they can get something for him rather than just letting him walk. The Magic could use him with Bass getting a recent ankle injury.

Is this the year that the Rockets can package their assets for a franchise player? The only way I see it is at the 11th hour a deal will not work with the Knicks, and the Rockets offer a nice package to rent Carmelo and try to convince him to stay in Houston.

Can someone steal OJ Mayo? I think teams will try to buy low with the recent suspension for Mayo, and no one will offer anything decent for a great complementary piece, but do not forget, Chris Wallace is still GM of Memphis, so expect anything.
