There’s a concept that I’ve struggled with a little since deciding to start my online business. It’s like many things I’ve encountered in life and basically has to do with the things you resist. One of my areas of resistance has been with the concept of becoming an internet marketer. I never really thought of myself as one, but have come to realize that anything you do in life has to be marketed. I think there’s been a negative association sometimes regarding internet marketers. I’m not sure why that is. But I’ve come to grips with the concept that I do, in fact, have to become more of a marketer if I really want to succeed online. Are you an internet marketer?

We all are marketers, from the first time we ask out neighbor to mow the lawn, to the meeting with the boss for that promotion. When you go on your first date, till the time you get married. From day one we are marketing ourselves and/ or our services. So we had better get with the program right from the beginning. That is one universal trait we all must share.

Education always seems harder than it really is, and I think part of the problem lies in our preconceived notions of certain things. It may be from something we learned many years ago or heard from someone who we hold a great deal of respect for. But many times, the things we resist the most, on the surface, are the exact things we need to learn. So, that being said, we really need to pay attention to what it is we are resisting. Because it’s probably an area we are either fearful of or need to learn from. Fear is very motivating and also can be liberating.

For example, I have a small fear of public speaking. Hooray, I’m in the box with everyone else on that one. It may be from when I was little, being forced to do a presentation in front of the class. But just the recognition of it has released at least half of the tension associated with it. Also, if you find yourself in a fearful situation, just ask yourself, “what’s the worst that can happen”? Just analyze your answer and many times you’ll find no real reason for a fear. I guess not being formally educated in the art of marketing may cause a fear of it. But I’ve come to the realization that I’ve always been a marketer. At times, a fairly good one. Other times, not so good. Always strive to take away the lesson being offered with the situation you may find yourself in. That way you’re not doomed to repeat it.

So if you haven’t come to grips with it yet, it’s time now. Say to yourself, “I AM A MARKETER”. Admit it. Be proud of it. OWN it. Make it yours. Nothing to be afraid of. It’s human nature. To those doubting what I’m saying, step out of your own shoes and look at it from outside the box. AHAAA. Get it? Wait for it… How about now? Good. Now go out there and market something. It really doesn’t matter what. Practice with anything, so that when you have a good product, people won’t even know why they bought from you. They’ll just say “damn, they’re good. What did I buy again?”

I hope this helps clear things up a little. By the way, I love marketing now. And guess what, I no longer fear it. Lesson learned, now I can progress. You can only have one at a time as they’re opposites. So until next time, take care and remember to…

Be more,
