The days are shorter, the air is crisper and leaves full of vibrant gold, red and orange and falling to the ground. While summer is turning swiftly into fall, that doesn’t mean wedding season is over for the year. It’s possible to have a beautiful wedding during the fall. The key? Using the beauty of fall to your advantage. After all, it’s all about using your five senses to create your dream wedding!!
Sight: Do you want to have an outdoor wedding on a sunny day? It’s all about what you think will be visually pleasing. Why not capture your wedding on film with a photo shoot among the colorful leaves in a forest? Also, be sure to place a disposable camera on each table, so your guests can capture beautiful moments for you, especially if you do choose to have an airy, outdoor wedding. And for those wedding guests? A great wedding favor is a small jar of fall jam or honey labeled with you and your spouse’s name and the date. A great way to commemorate the occasion. Also, place some small gourds and pumpkins at each table decorated in red, orange and yellow ribbon for that extra touch. Encourage each guest to take one with them when they leave.
Hear: Instead of having the reception inside, why not take it outside? Either under a big-top tent or a place where you and your guests can hear the sounds of fall all around them. The crunching of the leaves, the sounds of the birds. As for music, an orchestra is a great way to set the calm, slower-paced mood of fall. It captures the ambiance perfectly.
Smell: The smells of fall are one of the things that make the season so distinguishable from the others. Why not capture that mood, both during the ceremony and at the reception, by lighting soothing candles. To also capture fall, burning leaves is a great way to get everyone in the spirit of the season!
Touch: When you think of touch, your mind might immediately go to what you and your bridesmaid will wear. Fall is all about soft colors, so why not wear a light pink, purple, red or blue dress. And for bridesmaid? If you choose to wear a traditional white dress, consider those red colors for their dresses.
Taste: Food can be a huge concern for many at a wedding. A large factor in choosing what food to serve is the time of the reception. If you have an early reception, why not opt for light finger foods such as a meat and cheese tray. Also, for an extra touch, a bowl of fall berries (think blueberries, raspberries, apples) could be placed at each table for guests to nibble on. If you’re planning on having a dinner reception, fall is all about hearty soups with lots of vegetables. Give guests a choice of soup or chili as well as the usual choice of steak or chicken. And for dessert? Pumpkin pie and apple pie, naturally! If you’re still stumped, consider an activity at the reception that everyone can take part in: Carving pumpkins.
As with any season, though, feel free to experiment until you find something that truly reflects you, your tastes and your personality. It’s the happiest day of your life, and it should reflect you!
