Detox Cleanse and Nutrition
Gwyneth Paltrow is one of the new additions to detoxing from the celebrity world. She joins Beyoncé, Robin Quivers, and Oprah Winfrey as devotees to the detox diet, and detox cleanse. Now we all know that's detoxing, dieting, weight loss, anti aging, and beauty, etc. etc., are all big business across the Western world. And it is with the celebrity endorsements to a product, or indeed just the celebrities giving their blessings to certain treatments that brings a lot more people into the detox fold so to speak.
Cleansing and fasting have been around for centuries. All ideas are based on ancient Egyptian and Greek theories about fruit consumption. Although the entire industry took a downturn in the early part of the 20th century there seemed to be a rise again in recent years. The popularity of cleansing and the other alternatives medicinal approaches to health are seeing a resurgence again because people are seeing no dramatic decrease in the number of deaths caused by heart disease, cancer, and other such diseases. Mostly this is due to the fact that our diets are not as good as they used to be. Most detoxing and body cleansing tend to focus around complementary nutrition, avoidance nutrition, or physical treatments. There are of course areas of all these which can include herbal and homeopathic promotions.
I think most of the cleansing diets that promote eating whole foods, and eliminating toxic substances from your diet altogether are going to your increase health in general. I'm not too sure about the extreme diets that are condoning long-term fasting, or sticking to a particular type of food.
